I love to carve stone, especially Oamaru limestone. If possible I choose each piece directly from the quarry.
However, since my house was destroyed in the Feb. 2011 earthquake I have been forced to move further afield & now live in The Bay of Islands.
I can be inspired by many different things but its the stone itself that dictates the finished result. You never know what is to be found inside the stone until you start to chisel away.....sometimes shells & bones or just softer areas in the stone.
I have a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degree in Textiles & Fashion-having been a fashion designer in London in the 1980's I emigrated to New Zealand in 2007.
I now have my own studio/workshop where I can carve away to my hearts content. I am available to give Oamaru stone carving lessons for those that wish to 'have a chip at it' and make some unique and interesting creations. All you need to do is message me and I will get back to you with more information :).
